KGSG is Ending 12 Years on the Air
Please read the Following Letter from Mark & Shari, Owners of KGSG:
To our faithful listeners, loyal employees, advertisers, and Southern Gospel artists and promoters:
We regret that we can no longer continue to operate KGSG, “Simply Gospel Music” and have arranged the sale of the station to another local broadcaster who will be changing the station’s format. Effective June 19, 2009, 93.7 in the Tri-Cities will be under control of new owners, and will cease to broadcast Gospel music within a short time.
KGSG signed on in 1997 as an independent radio station offering full-time Gospel Music programming to the Mid-Columbia region. When we signed on, we intended to utilize 24 hour programming from the Solid Gospel radio network, but found that we really wanted to control the programming more, and thus began operating the station locally since 1998. Over the years, we have enjoyed developing relationships, encouraging believers and sending the hope-filled message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to our listeners throughout this area, and we will be eternally grateful for your support.
However, we have never been able to make a successful business out of KGSG, and have lost money every year we have been on the air. As the station’s owners, we have never been able to enjoy the salaries that most business owners receive from a mature business. Even though we tried many different approaches to keep the station on the air, including substantial cost cutting and offering special pricing, it became obvious that only one direction was available, and we are happy to report that the station has been sold at a reasonable price in these difficult financial times, although it will actually take years to recover our financial investment.
Certainly, this has been a work of the heart and we have no regrets in investing a substantial part of our lives in this endeavor. Only eternity will tell the results of serving the Lord in this manner.
Mark has responded to a new call on his life, and will be working to install and support Christian radio stations around the world. Shari also serves on the governing board of this new ministry, known as KaraTek International. You can learn more (and find out Mark’s “off air” name) by visiting www.ktekint.org.
In the words of the Talley Trio’s latest hit, “Life Goes On”. May the Lord richly bless you. We have been privileged to be a part of your life over the past 12 years.
Sincerely,
Mark Gibbson & Shari
