Music Charting

Simply Gospel 93.7 is a charting station for the premier monthly publication in Gospel Music, the Singing News, which publishes their monthly Top 80 Chart. We also provide weekly charting information to SoGospelNews.com, Gary Wilson's Southern Gospel USA countdown show, and the Christian Music Weekly.  Other monthly charts we contribute to are Gospel Music News and Christian Voice Magazine.

The Gospel charts indicate how much airplay various songs are getting on Gospel radio stations.  Each charting station submits a list of the most-played songs to the publications they chart for.  Simply Gospel 93.7 charts to provide our listeners the best in the latest "Gospel Music Variety", and also to influence the direction of Gospel music.

Every radio station has its own way to decide which songs will play the most.   Here at Simply Gospel, we use a two-step process.  New music arriving at the station is reviewed by Mark Gibbson and Shari.   Those songs that pass our standards of quality, as well  as fit well with our format, are placed onto our computer-based music system at a "mid" level of rotation for about three months.  We generally lean toward more up-tempo sounds, although the occasional ballad or slower song helps to keep our Gospel Music Variety sounding just right.

Every one to two weeks, our staff votes on new releases for the latest 12 months, by choosing 30 songs each from a listing.  These votes are tallied, then applied to our music system to make the most-voted for songs play more.  We have found that our staff represents a good cross-section of our listeners, with some preferring more traditional music while others lean toward the progressive side.  Even one vote will cause a song to be played more.  This weighted-voting number is applied to each song, as you can see in our list of music.

KGSG's latest Top 20 songs submitted to monthly charting publications are shown below.  ("Plays" indicate how many times a particular song played during the charted month.)  Charts are tabulated by calendar month, from the first day through the last day of the month.
